Well, I guess there should be laws or something to ensure equality no matter where you're from, which your religious orientation is. Maybe it's different in the US? Well, in Europe that company would definetely have to pay a fine if someone would fine out. It is really sad and a negative fact about the company! So, as the other person said, don't worry about that. I also think that when they start condemning you at that early stage, I really don't want to know what happens within the company! Anyway, I hope that other application processes go on better. Good luck!

"Apparently, these companies were looking for people from Ivy League schools."

Is that what they said, or speculation?

If a company hires on this basis (heck, the two best developers I've ever worked with were college dropouts), you probably don't want to work there.

If their hiring process is that stupid, imagine how it extends to the rest of their processes.

Both opportunities were presented to me by a recruiter, and in both cases, she was told that while everything 'looked great', the companies were more interested in looking for someone from one of those schools. There was nothing else that raised a flag as to why I wasn't considered for any open positions.

I also noticed one or two job postings recently around the Internet mentioning that coming from one of these schools is 'a plus'. Seeing these ads is pretty discouraging, because I think my resumé will be tossed aside if there's a University of Pennsylvania or Princeton grad applying.
